Bahrain Hosts ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy Tour as Angelo Mathews Joins Celebrations

The Kingdom of Bahrain has officially launched the DP World ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy Tour, marking a significant milestone for cricket fans and the wider sporting community in the country. Organised by the Bahrain Cricket Federation (BCF) in cooperation with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the three-day tour runs until Sunday, 11 January 2026, offering the public a rare opportunity to experience one of world cricket’s most iconic trophies up close.

Blending sport with culture, the Trophy Tour showcases Bahrain’s rich heritage through a vibrant programme that includes a royal boat parade, fan engagement activities at major shopping malls, visits to historic landmarks, and extensive school outreach initiatives. These activities aim to inspire young people, promote grassroots cricket, and strengthen the sport’s growing presence across the Kingdom.

Cricket fans have already engaged with the trophy at several prominent locations, including Water Garden City, The Avenues Mall, Dana Mall, and a range of historic sporting and cultural sites. The tour has attracted widespread attention, reflecting the rising popularity of cricket in Bahrain and the enthusiasm of its diverse sporting community.

A major highlight of the tour will be the attendance of Sri Lankan cricket legend Angelo Mathews at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy Unveiling Gala. The Bahrain Cricket Federation confirmed that Mathews will be in Bahrain for the prestigious event, adding international stature and excitement to the celebrations.

The gala is scheduled for Saturday, 10 January 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Crowne Plaza Bahrain. It will bring together senior government officials, corporate leaders, international cricket representatives, and members of the cricketing fraternity. The event is being held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of the General Sports Authority, underscoring Bahrain’s strong commitment to sports development and international sporting engagement.

BCF officials noted that the presence of Angelo Mathews not only elevates the prestige of the Trophy Tour but also serves as a powerful source of inspiration for Bahrain’s cricket community, which now includes more than 15,000 players and fans across the Kingdom.
