Dubai’s moon-shaped mega resort moves closer to reality, promising a lunar experience on Earth

Dubai is preparing to add another headline-making landmark to its skyline — this time inspired by outer space. The Moon World Resorts project, a massive moon-shaped destination, is edging closer to reality and is expected to redefine experiential tourism in the emirate.

Standing approximately 224 meters tall, the structure is designed to replicate the appearance of the real Moon and will be visible from kilometers away. Unlike conventional skyscrapers, the project aims to blend hospitality, entertainment, and immersive space-themed experiences under one iconic dome.

At the heart of Moon World Resorts will be a luxury hotel and high-end residential units, catering to global tourists and investors seeking something beyond traditional five-star offerings. The development is also planned to feature simulated lunar surface experiences, allowing visitors to “walk on the Moon” without leaving Earth. Advanced space and lunar simulations, interactive attractions, and themed entertainment zones are expected to form a major part of the visitor experience.

The resort is also being positioned as a major events destination. With dedicated venues for large-scale gatherings, exhibitions, and entertainment shows, the project aligns with Dubai’s strategy of creating globally unique attractions that drive tourism, business travel, and international attention.

According to current projections, Moon World Resorts is expected to open between 2027 and 2028. Once construction officially begins, the build timeline is estimated at around 48 months, or four years. While final details on location and investment figures are yet to be confirmed, the concept has already generated strong global interest.

The project reflects Dubai’s continued ambition to push architectural and experiential boundaries, following landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, and Museum of the Future. If delivered as envisioned, Moon World Resorts could become one of the most distinctive tourism destinations in the world, offering visitors the chance to experience a slice of the Moon in the heart of the UAE.
