Oman has received regional leadership recognition in the Universal Postal Union’s 2026 Postal Development Index, Oman News Agency reported on 9 October, marking a second consecutive year at the top regionally.

The announcement coincided with World Post Day and highlighted the expansion of postal services across the Sultanate. The number of post offices and access points rose from 610 in 2024 to 704 in 2025.

ONA also reported that domestic express-mail volumes increased by 26 per cent in 2025 to more than 4.38 million items, while more than three million incoming international items were handled.

The figures describe recent growth in the postal network and its role in trade and logistics. The award is regional recognition; it does not mean Oman ranked first worldwide.
