Kuwait’s Ministry of Communications is preparing changes to postal legislation and planning an international consultancy tender as part of efforts to modernise the sector, Kuwait News Agency reported on 9 October.

Acting Undersecretary Meshal Al-Zaid told KUNA that a proposed postal law would replace Law No. 1 of 1970. The aim is to create a framework suited to current services and technological developments.

The ministry also plans to commission specialists to assess the sector and prepare studies and documents for a public-private partnership model. Its stated priorities include operational efficiency, technology infrastructure and postal and logistics services supporting e-commerce, individuals and businesses.

The announcement, made for World Post Day, sets out work being prepared. It does not confirm that the law has been enacted, a consultancy contract awarded or new services launched.
