Specialist stroke services in Al Ain have received a new recognition from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, which has designated SEHA Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Mohammed Medical City as a Centre of Excellence for stroke.

The designation was announced in an official release on 9 October 2026. According to the department, it adds an Al Ain centre to the emirate’s network alongside two existing stroke Centres of Excellence in Abu Dhabi.

Specialist care closer to the community

The medical city’s services include a dedicated stroke unit, rehabilitation and a multidisciplinary clinical team. The official announcement also describes advanced imaging and tele-stroke consultations that connect clinicians with specialist expertise remotely.

The department said the designation recognises the facility’s specialist capabilities and forms part of its work to expand access to complex care across the emirate.

How centres are assessed

Abu Dhabi’s Centre of Excellence framework considers clinical outcomes, patient experience and safety, service quality, staff competency, education and research. The recognition is an institutional designation; it does not promise a particular outcome for an individual patient.

Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Mohammed Medical City is part of SEHA and the PureHealth group.
