Fifty students from six Qatar Foundation schools have completed the sixth edition of Showtime!, a theatre programme that takes learning beyond the classroom.
Qatar News Agency reported on 13 October that the students performed in the bilingual production The Secret of the Garden, featuring the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. The report announced the programme’s conclusion without specifying the performance date.
Learning through performance
The experience included auditions, script readings and rehearsals as well as the final production. Students developed acting, vocal and movement skills while working together to bring characters to life.
Arabic played a prominent role, giving participants opportunities to use vocabulary and language structures in an expressive setting. Reading scripts, communicating with an audience and coordinating music and movement connected the production with classroom learning.
Aisha Al Sultan, Performing Arts Specialist at Qatar Music Academy within Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education, described the learning process as extending beyond the final show to the challenges and discoveries along the way.
