An experiment in Saudi Arabia’s Qassim region is exploring how dates can become a new frozen dessert, bringing a familiar local ingredient into contemporary food production.

Saudi Press Agency reported on October 5 that Mohammed Al-Salhi has developed date ice cream using processed date paste blended into an ice cream base.

The approach begins with selecting and preparing dates before adjusting the mixture for flavour, sweetness and texture.

Al-Salhi sees potential for small businesses to develop different serving sizes and packaging for hospitality, gifts and agricultural events.

The experiment offers a food-focused example of adding value to locally grown produce. The report did not announce a retail launch, prices or named outlets selling the dessert.
