Three American University of Sharjah students have won the inaugural Women Innovator Challenge with AquaServe, a proposal to recover and reuse water in data-centre cooling, the university announced on 5 October.

Amritha Rajeev, Raisa Syed and Sham Al-Tabba’ presented a design, calculations and a computer simulation. Their concept would use tiny air bubbles to remove heat from warm water, then condense water vapour and return it for reuse.

The idea aims to reduce water lost during cooling. It remains a proposal; the announcement does not report a deployed system or measured savings from operating equipment.

Organised by the university’s Women in Engineering Society, the competition focused on water scarcity and sustainable water management in the UAE. It received 26 submissions, with 13 finalist teams involving 46 students from seven institutions.

AquaSecure from Al Ain University placed second, followed by HydroGuard from Heriot-Watt University Dubai.
