Al Ain International Airport has been renamed Tahnoun International Airport following a directive from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The new official name took effect on 11 October 2026, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office announcement published that day.
Honouring decades of service
The change honours the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan and recognises his decades of service to the UAE.
The announcement described the decision as a tribute to the founding generation and its contribution to the country’s development.
What the announcement covers
The directive concerns the airport’s name. It does not announce new routes, changes to flight schedules or a terminal opening.
