The Islamic Development Bank has signed two financing agreements totalling €326.06 million to support transport infrastructure and agriculture in Benin, the Saudi Press Agency reported on 13 October.
The agreements followed discussions between IsDB Group Chairman Dr Muhammad Al Jasser and Benin minister Hugues Oscar Lokossou on development priorities and further cooperation.
IsDB will provide €306.89 million towards expanding and modernising the Godomey–Ouidah–Hillacondji road. The overall project is valued at €576.06 million and aims to improve safety, reduce journey times and transport costs, and strengthen regional trade links.
A second project will receive €19.17 million from IsDB towards a total cost of €20.70 million. It focuses on legume-based farming systems intended to improve soil fertility, agricultural resilience and food security.
The figures describe agreed financing and intended benefits; the announcement does not report that construction or agricultural outcomes have already been completed.
