Sharjah’s twelfth Calligraphy Biennial is set to bring 681 artworks by 272 artists to venues across the emirate, with 61 workshops giving audiences opportunities to explore the craft.
The Sharjah Department of Culture’s event calendar lists the programme from 7 October to 15 November 2026. Its theme, Mizan, centres on balance and precision, ideas closely connected to the structure and expression of Arabic calligraphy.
According to Emirates News Agency’s 5 October announcement, the programme includes 26 exhibitions and 93 events overall, encompassing exhibitions, workshops, lectures and discussions. Traditional and contemporary approaches will feature across the programme.
Venues include Calligraphy Square, Sharjah Art Museum, House of Wisdom and 1971 – Design Space. The exhibitions bring together artists from the UAE and overseas, while the workshops offer a closer look at calligraphy techniques and different forms of the art.
The programme combines opportunities to view finished works with learning and discussion about a continuing artistic practice.
